Comerc Energia Operation in Bento Gonçalves celebrates second anniversary

Customers in the state of Rio Grande do Sul have saved R$ 65 million in the free energy market

March, we celebrated 2 years operating in city of Bento Gonçalves. Led by Vice President Luiz Octavio Vilela de Andrade and Commercial Director João Aramis, our Rio Grande do Sul office started with a team of four employees. Today we have seven people in our local Comerc team serving more than 100 consumer units in the state.

“We opened our Bento Gonçalves office in 2017 with an eye on the opportunities offered by the city, and it became our hub for Rio Grande do Sul. With our local operation, we increased our number of clients by more than 40% over these two years”, says Luiz Octavio.

By purchasing their energy in the free energy market, in 2018 Comerc customers in Rio Grande do Sul saved 28% compared to the captive market. Today Comerc manages a total of more than 120 megawatts in the state of Rio Grande do Sul.   “In 2018, we generated financial savings of more than R$ 65 million for our clients in Rio Grande do Sul,” explains João Aramis.

Among the companies served by our Bento Gonçalves unit are the Fundaparque Event Complex and Smurfit Kappa paper packaging plant, besides Todeschini modular furniture.

Maintenance Supervisor Edson Brondani explains that Todeschini started operating in the free energy market in 2011, and later partnered with Comerc in 2015. “We value the strategic support offered by Comerc in buy-sell operations of surplus energy, and the convenience of having real-time data on our invoices. And there’s also the fact that the team works closely with us, coming often to our facilities. All of this helped build a partnership that we hope to keep for many years to come, ” says Edson.

Cláudio Magalhães is the industrial manager of the Bento Gonçalves unit of Smurfit Kappa. In his opinion, predictability is one of the important advantages of having Comerc support in their energy management efforts. “This partnership of more than six years has spared us a lot of guesswork, since we now have relevant, updated information about our business and about the Brazilian energy scenario in general,” he says.

“Our Bento Gonçalves office brings us closer to the customers. We intend to grow our number of clients in the states of Paraná, Santa Catarina and especially in Rio Grande do Sul, considering the many manufacturing companies located in the area of Bento Gonçalves and Caxias do Sul. The profile of local industrial energy consumers leads us to believe there will be significant migration to the free market”, concludes Comerc Energia CEO Cristopher Vlavianos in an interview to Jornal do Comércio.
